It's been a while since I've posted on here but I've been a little busy with work and life. Playing with the nephews, illness, and the like tend to take up a lot of time. But I've been working on sewing and other stuff lately too.
These two lovely ladies are WWE Superstar Fashion Dolls, a new line by Mattel on their Sport Barbie body. I do like the body but I prefer the articulation of the Made to Move so not long after these were taken I put mine on new ones. Before that i did do some sewing for them. At the moment not much has has been made for them.
The top in the first picture actually fits any Barbie body. I made it a while ago and it's styled with a pair of MTM leggings. the dress in the second one is made from a Valentine's Day Sock. I know, weird but they work for sweaters.
I am using the bodies still for Monster High dolls. It's fun to see those odd heads on this style body.

The next doll I've been making clothes for is a Cabbage Patch Kid doll. This outfit is a Halloween themed one with a lined vest and attached skirt, matching pants and a reversible cape that can be worn two ways. I personally love the little Jack O' Lantern buttons on the vest the most. Just too darn cute.
I've not made too many things for Cabbies before. It's a line of dolls I wasn't interested in for the most part until about a year ago now. Then a friend, the one this particular outfit is meant for, just kept showing pictures of her cutie pie one. After a while I kinds fell for their adorable faces. Now I have four in three different sizes!

This is a Momoko doll and a lovely one at that. I don't own this lady but I'm working on her for a friend. Rerooting and repainting her to match the character she has in mind for her. While doing that I am also making clothes.
I have to make them while the doll is with me as I don't own one of these myself. You can buy patterns for them and they work but I have the issue of fit. I'm very particular about how the clothes I make should fit on the doll. Usually I adjust the patterns several times before I'm happy with the results. The shirt she's wearing is a good example. That went through three versions to get it just right.

On the other side of the coin from drafting my own patterns is my habit for pattern collecting.
I love patterns and often buy them. The pants Ivy is wearing is from a pattern by Reuiem Art Designs on Etsy. She makes and sells the patterns in her store for a variety of dolls. I often buy them for my collection. At this point I probably have as many patterns as I do dolls, if not more.
When I find a pattern I like I buy it with the intentions of testing it. This doesn't meant they final results will be made exactly how the pattern was meant for it to be. For example, the pants above I like but I want to make the waist higher and switch the closure from back to front for a more realistic look. I'll play with a pre-made pattern quite a bit before I leave it alone.
Sewing is a relaxing and often fun thing for me. I'm able to forget what is going on around me for a while and focus on the tiny details of the outfit I am working on. Though you don't see it in these examples I have added more detail to my work with embroidery, lace, ribbon and even buttons. It can be quite challenging to find and make details to fit the size of the dolls I work with as most things are far overs sized.
Heather, below, is an example of the embroidery I use for my doll clothes. She's smaller than a Barbie. Her body is about the size of a Kelly doll with longer legs and arms.

The other thing about this craft is the time it takes to make one outfit. Take the top and skirt Momoko is wearing. From start to finish it took me about four hours to sew. The reason for that is I sew every thing by hand. I can use a machine but the noise from one causes me migraines at times. It's just easier (less painful) if I do it this way. The other plus is the fact I can sew with smaller hems and seams. Trust me, in this scale every little bit counts.
That's what I've been up to lately. Sewing and sewing.
