I've decided to push myself creatively. I am going to work on one creative project everyday. It can be from any of my craft outlets; drawing, painting, ooaking dolls, writing, photography, or even just coloring. The goal is to be more productive and to get into the flow easier from creation to creation.
So, with that in mind I decided I would attempt to draw some characters in a Tim Burton style. I love his movies and his drawings. Sadly, I know my style of drawing will never blend with his style and create anything worth looking at. But his movie character style... Now that's a horse of a different color.
Trouble is, it takes practice to learn a new style. I draw people all the time in realistic, anime, and even cartoon styles. His movie style is different. It's a bit warped and beautifully creepy. So how to do that in a drawing?
First attempt didn't go as planned.

Hum, head is nearly there, and the concept is working. Trouble is I switched mid drawing back to my own style of drawing. That's why she has a Burton-ish head on a regular kid body. His bodies are long, lean, and elegant. I am not use to that in drawing. But talking with a friend and she said, "You just need to force the change and practice." Good advice, Lisa.
Attempt two went far better.

I think it went well. The body is longer and leaner than the first one. Perhaps not quite as long as it could be, but this is supposed to be a blend between his style and mine. I'm happy with it.
So I'll likely doodle other characters in this style. What about you? Do you challenge your skills and attempt a different style every now and again?
